Police Charge Man After Copper Theft – Rutherford

A man will appear in court today charged following an investigation into four separate stealing’s from a manufacturer in Rutherford over the past week.

Police have been told that more than 3km of copper cabling had been stolen from the business on Racecourse Road, Rutherford, with an estimated value of more than $22,000.

Following the incidents, police from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District Proactive Crime Team commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, police attended a Mulbring address about 11.40am yesterday (Monday 11 March 2024).

At the property, police located and seized copper cabling they will allege was stolen from the Racecourse Road manufacturer.

A 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene before being taken to Cessnock Police Station where he was charged with four counts of larceny.

He was refused bail to appear before Cessnock Court today (Tuesday 12 March 2024).
