Police charge man after dangerous driving on Princes Highway

Warrnambool Highway Patrol officers have charged a man following several alleged erratic driving incidents in Western Victoria on Friday night.

A blue Holden Commodore sedan was seen by police allegedly driving at a fast rate of speed along the Princes Highway through Camperdown, Cudgee and Warrnambool between 5pm and 7pm on 22 January.

It is alleged the Holden Commodore was overtaking vehicles on double lines and blind bends forcing vehicles to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

The Holden Commodore then allegedly lost control in a section of roadworks at Cudgee, spinning out of control and crashing into a sign before driving away.

Later the same night, officers observed a second vehicle, a silver Ford Falcon sedan, allegedly driving erratically along the Princes Highway at Port Fairy about 9.00pm.

It is alleged the vehicle drove onto the wrong side of the road before police attempted to intercept it without success.

Police believe the same man was driving during both incidents.

On Saturday morning, police arrested a 31-year-old man in Casterton in relation to the driving incidents.

He was charged with six offences including reckless conduct endangering life and failing to stop on police direction.

He was remanded to appear at the Warrnambool Magistrates’ Court on Monday 25 January.

Anyone travelling on the Princes Highway between the above times, specifically through roadwork areas, who witnessed either of the vehicles or could provide dash cam footage, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report via www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
