Police charge man after fatal crash in West Ryde

A man has been charged after a fatal motor vehicle crash in West Ryde last month.

About 10.20pm (Saturday 14 December 2019), emergency services were called to Victoria Road, near West Parade, after reports a Nissan Silvia and a Toyota Camry collided head-on.

The 20-year-old female passenger of the Nissan was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for critical injuries before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where she later died.

The Nissan driver, a 21-year-old man, was also taken Royal North Shore Hospital with serious injuries.

The Toyota driver, a 20-year-old man, and his 23-year-old female passenger were taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attended commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following inquiries, officers arrested a 21-year-old man at a Carlingford home about 11.40am on Tuesday (31 December 2019).

He was taken to Ryde Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, drive motor vehicle furiously cause bodily harm (X2), drive in a manner dangerous to the public, negligent driving occasioning death and negligent driving.

His licence was also suspended.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Monday 3 February 2020.
