Police charge man after fatal double stabbing in Cartwright

A man has been charged over the alleged fatal double stabbing of two people in Sydney’s southwest yesterday.

About 4pm (Tuesday 17 December 2019), emergency services were called to Huntley Place, Cartwright, after reports two people were stabbed following an altercation.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command attended and located a woman and a man suffering serious stab wounds.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man, however, he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged 40.

The woman, believed to be aged 34, was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition and died a short time later. She is yet to be formally identified.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was taken to Liverpool Police Station.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic police and detectives commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, the man was charged with two counts of murder.

He has been refused bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 19 December 2019).

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
