A man has been charged after police located a number of firearms allegedly hidden in the bulbar of a vehicle during a Firearm Prohibition Search in the state’s mid-west.
About 10.30am yesterday (Tuesday 18 February 2020) officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District, assisted by the Dog Unit, conducted a search on a home on Ferris Street, Clandulla – between Mudgee and Bathurst.
During the search, officers located a Toyota Landcruiser inside a shed at the rear of the property.
Upon searching the Landcruiser, two firearms – a Winchester .22 calibre rifle and a side by side double barrel shot gun – as well as ammunition and a silencer were located, allegedly concealed within the bulbar.
A 68-year-old man was arrested and taken to Mudgee Police Station.
He was charged with 12 offences including:
– Two counts of possess unregistered firearm-not prohibited firearm/pistol
– Two counts of possess unauthorised firearm
– Two counts of not keep firearm safely-not prohibited firearm/pistol
– Two counts of Acquire etc firearm – subject to prohibition order
– Use, supply, acquire or possess defaced firearm
– Possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority
– Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
– Use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order
The man was also charged with breaching his bail conditions.
He was refused bail to appear before Mudgee Local Court today (Wednesday 19 February 2020).
