Police charge man after search warrant at Muswellbrook

A man will face Muswellbrook court next month charged with drug and firearm offences.

Highway Patrol officers attached to attached to Hunter Valley Police District were patrolling the Cessnock area when they stopped a sedan about 8am yesterday (Tuesday 19 December 2023), on Wine Country Drive.

Police will allege in court when the driver – a 27-year-old man – and the vehicle were searched they found 50 rounds of ammunition, a mobile phone and $2500 cash.

Subsequently, detectives from the Rural Crime Prevention Team, with the assistance of Hunter Valley Detectives, executed a search warrant at a property on Maitland Street, Muswellbrook, where they allegedly seized 20kg of cannabis, a firearm, ammunition and a bag containing white powder – alleged to be cocaine.

The man was taken to Cessnock Police station where he was charged with three counts of possess unauthorised firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, deal with property proceeds of crime less than $100000, supply cannabis more than indictable and less than commercial quantity, and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear at Muswellbrook Local Court on Tuesday 16 January 2024.
