Police charge man after sexually touching and filming children in Campsie

A man will appear in court today after allegedly sexually touching and unlawfully filming two children in Sydney’s south west yesterday.

Just before 6.30pm (Wednesday 11 March 2020), officers from Campsie Police Area Command were called to a unit complex on Oswald Street, Campsie, after reports of a child approach.

Police will allege two children – aged four and six – were sitting in the front yard of the complex when a man riding a bike stopped and spoke to them, before he entered the front yard and sat down with them.

The man allegedly offered them lollies while he filmed the children and allegedly sexually touched one of them.

A nearby member of the public noticed the man and called police, detaining him until they arrived.

The 68-year-old man was taken to Campsie Police Station, where, following a joint effort between Campsie detectives and detectives from State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad, the man was charged with the following offences:

– Procure child under 14 years for unlawful sexual activity;

– Produce child abuse material;

– Two counts of film persons private parts without consent;

– Intentionally sexually touch child under 10 years;

– Produce child abuse material;

– Two counts of common assault;

– Enter inclosed land without lawful excuse; and,

– Fail to comply with reporting obligations.

He was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today (Thursday 12 March 2020).
