Police charge man after shotgun seized in Strathfield

A man has been charged after a sawn-off shotgun was allegedly located in a vehicle in Strathfield today.

About 8.40am yesterday (Wednesday 6 July 2022), officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command and Strike Force Hawk were conducting proactive patrols when they approached a blue Mini Coupe after observing the driver as being subject to a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO).

Officers spoke to the 28-year-old male driver before searching the vehicle, where they allegedly located a loaded sawn-off double barrel shotgun and a used cartridge case.

The items, together with the Mini Coupe, were seized for forensic examination.

The man was arrested and taken to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with 12 offences including possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, acquire prohibited firearm-subject prohibition order, acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period – 2nd+offence, use unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm and a number of unrelated offences.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday 21 July 2022.
