Police Charge Man Over Northbridge Taxi Incident

Perth Detectives have charged a 37-year-old man, as part of their ongoing investigation into an incident that occurred in Northbridge during the early hours of Sunday 15 September 2024.

About 3.25am, a Toyota Camry sedan taxi – collected four people, (two men aged 37 and 39, and two women aged 40 and 43) outside a nightclub on James Street in Northbridge.

It will be alleged a disagreement occurred between the taxi driver and the 37-year-old man. The accused allegedly assaulted the 24-year-old male taxi driver, causing the taxi to accelerate along James Street, up onto the footpath, and into the front wall of a restaurant on James Street.

All occupants of the taxi sustained various injuries as a result of the crash and were conveyed by ambulance to hospital.

A 37-year-old man from Mirrabooka has been charged with:

• Made a Threat to Unlawfully do an Act;

• Grievous Bodily Harm; and

• Unlawful Act or Omission with intent to harm (endangering life, health or safety of any person).

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 16 September 2024.
