Police charge man over series of petrol thefts, South Australia

A man will face court on Monday charged with multiple petrols thefts across the metropolitan area.

Police are investigating a series of fuel drive offs involving a blue Mazda Bravo ute since the beginning of the year at petrol stations in the western, northern and north eastern suburbs.

Despite extensive inquiries, the suspect had been evading police until officers caught up with him yesterday at a Largs Bay address.

The 33-year-old Largs North man was arrested and charged with 17 counts of making off without payment, driving disqualified on each occasion (17 counts) and driving unregistered and uninsured.

His vehicle was impounded for 28 days.

Police also seized a trailer from the property, suspected of being stolen, and are making further inquiries.

The arrested man was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday 25 July.
