Police charge man with attempting to strangle woman in DV assault in Merrylands

A man will appear in court today after being charged with attempting to strangle a woman in a domestic related incident at Merrylands.

About 4pm on Monday 17 June 2019, a 29-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were with friends in a home unit in Ann Street.

Police have been told the man took the woman to a spare room, and after an argument, allegedly strangled her until she lost consciousness.

During the incident the home owner, approached the 29-year-old man but was threatened.

The woman contacted her husband.

He returned home and after speaking with the 29-year-old man, contacted police.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended and arrested the 29-year-old man.

The injured woman was treated at the scene by Ambulance paramedics and conveyed to Westmead Hospital for treatment to her injuries in a stable condition.

The man was taken to Granville Police Station where he was later charged with attempt strangle with intent to murder, intentionally choke person with recklessness and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Tuesday 18 June 2019).
