Police charge man with drink-driving after ramming police vehicle in South Coast

A man has been charged with high-range drink-driving after allegedly ramming a police vehicle on the state’s South Coast yesterday.

Just before 3pm (Wednesday 27 October 2021), officers attached to South Coast Police District were called to Ross Ridge Road at Mogo, following reports the driver of a white Subaru was allegedly conducting burnouts.

When officers approached the intersection of Runnyford Road, it will be alleged the Subaru was reversed and driven into a police vehicle before leaving the area at speed.

Police sighted the vehicle a short time later on the Princes Highway at Mogo, and directed the driver to pull over.

The driver allegedly failed to stop as directed before allegedly reaching speeds of 100km/h in a signposted 50km/h zone.

A pursuit was initiated, before the Subaru stopped at Church Street.

The 35-year-old male driver and his 26-year-old male passenger were arrested.

The driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result.

The pair were taken to Batemans Bay Police Station, where the passenger was released without charge.

The driver returned an alleged secondary breath analysis of 0.225. He was subsequently charged with five offences;

  • use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road,
  • drive motor vehicle during disqualification period,
  • use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention,
  • police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, and,
  • drive with high range PCA.

The Mogo man was refused bail to appear at Batemans Bay Local Court today (Thursday 28 October 2021).
