Police charge man with drug trafficking offences

A 57 year old Colebrook man has been charged with drug trafficking following a targeted traffic operation yesterday.

Members of Oatlands Police, in conjunction with Transport Tasmania Inspectors and Police drug detection dog handlers, were conducting a targeted traffic operation on Richmond Street, Colebrook, about 12.40pm yesterday.

A vehicle being driven by a 57 year old Colebrook man was intercepted and Police Dog Bernie immediately detected drugs on the man.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed approximately 2 ounces of cannabis. A search of the man revealed him to be in possession of a large quantity of cash. Following further enquiries, a search warrant was obtained for the man’s nearby residence. The search of his premises recovered a large quantity of cannabis and seedlings.

The man was charged with Trafficking in a controlled drug x 1 (Major Offence) Cultivate controlled plant for Sale x 1 (Major Offence) and Possess Controlled Plant Product.

The man was bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.
