Police charge man with murder at Newtown

A man has been charged following the death of another man at Newtown

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command were called to a unit block on Forbes Street just after 7pm Friday (21 July 2023), and found a man suffering multiple stab wounds.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, the 63-year-old man died at the scene.

Detectives established a crime scene and commenced an investigation under Strike Force Lymington, assisted by officers from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Following inquiries, a 43-year-old man was arrested about 9.30am yesterday (Saturday 22 July 2023), at a unit block on nearby Golden Grove Street.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with murder, and use weapon to avoid lawful apprehension.

The man, from Newtown, was refused bail but is now currently undergoing assessment at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

His court date is yet to be confirmed.
