A man has been charged after an incident outside Canterbury Hospital yesterday.
About 11.40am (Thursday 22 August 2019) a 35-year-old man entered a taxi in Marrickville and asked to be taken to Canterbury Hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital, the passenger asked if the driver could wait for him and mind his belongings.
It is alleged that whilst the man was walking towards a hospital treatment facility, the taxi driver noticed him adjust his clothing – revealing the man was carrying a hand gun tucked in the rear of his pants.
As the driver tried to move out of sight, the man turned and ran towards the car, pointing the pistol at him. The driver threw the mans belongings out of the car and drove away before calling police.
Following a search by Campsie Police Area Command, the man was located and arrested. An imitation pistol was recovered as well as money and women’s jewellery.
The man was charged with possessing an unauthorised pistol, intimidation, and goods in custody offences. He was refused bail and will appear at Burwood Local Court today (Friday 23 August 2019).
