Knox Police have charged two people after an unmarked police vehicle was allegedly rammed in Ferntree Gully overnight.
Officers spotted the Holden Commodore driving north-west along Burwood Highway just before midnight.
The registration plate on the rear of the vehicle was allegedly stolen so police conducted a u-turn in an attempt to stop and speak to the driver.
The Holden turned into Thomas Street, closely followed by the unmarked police vehicle.
The car pulled into a driveway of a commercial property as officers continued driving along Thomas Street.
Officers then came back around and pulled in behind the Commodore and got out and approached the driver side.
The 25-year-old Cranbourne man who was seated in the driver seat, then reversed the car into the police vehicle before getting out and running away.
A 22-year-old Cranbourne woman, who was in the front passenger seat, was arrested without incident.
Police took chase and the man was seen jumping fences.
The area was cordoned off and the man was later arrested by the Canine Unit after he was found allegedly hiding in the front yard of a property on Wes Crescent.
He has been charged with reckless exposure of police officer to risk by driving, aggravated reckless exposure of police officer to risk by driving, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, fail to stop vehicle on police request and resist police.
The woman has been charged with handle stolen goods, possess drug of dependence and breaching bail curfew.
The pair have both been remanded and will appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court today.
The police vehicle sustained minor damage and the officers were not physically injured during the incident.
