Police charge teen after pursuit of stolen ute in Eastwood

A 15-year-old boy is due in court today after a police pursuit in Sydney’s northern suburbs.

Officers from Ryde Highway Patrol were conducting RBT duties on Lane Cove Road, North Ryde, when they saw a utility driving towards them about 1.30am yesterday (Monday 25 March 2019), with the high beam on.

Police directed the driver into the testing area; however, will allege he did not stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The utility was followed through surrounding back streets until the driver crashed into shrubs in the front yard of a home on Vimeira Road, Eastwood.

The driver was arrested and taken to Ryde Police Station, where checks revealed he was 15 years old and the utility had been reported stolen from outside a home in North Ryde on Tuesday 19 March 2019.

The youth has now been charged with

• Not comply with direction to stop/move

• Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously

• Speeding

• Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner

• Driver never licensed.

He has also been charged with breaching his bail conditions.

The youth has been bail refused to Parramatta Children’s Court today (Tuesday 26 March 2019).
