Police charge three men after northern suburbs shootings

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have charged three men as part of their investigation into two alleged firearms incidents in the northern suburbs which police believe to be linked.

The first incident allegedly occurred when shots were fired into a property on Barry Road about 5am on Monday, 23 January.

A 40-year-old Thomastown man received a gunshot wound to his arm.

On Friday, 10 February, a 27-year-old Greenvale man self-presented to hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

This second incident allegedly occurred at approximately 11pm in the vicinity of Guildford Avenue in Coolaroo.

With assistance from the Special Operations Group, a 21-year-old Mickleham man was arrested yesterday at an address on Salisbury Terrace.

Police executed a search warrant and allegedly located ammunition, an imitation firearm, and various mobile phones.

Investigators also seized a vehicle which allegedly had a bullet hole through the door.

The Mickleham man was charged with intentionally cause serious injury (gross violence), intentionally cause serious injury, prohibited person use firearm, fail to stop vehicle on police direction, prohibited person possess imitation firearm, fail to surrender on service, possess cartridge ammunition, deal with proceeds of crime and fail to comply with direction to assist

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

Yesterday’s charges come after a 23-year-old Craigieburn man was arrested on Friday, 3 March.

Police allegedly located a firearm, a large quantity of ammunition, a grenade, a machete and drugs following searches of a property on Kangaroo Road in Craigieburn and a vehicle.

The Craigieburn man was charged with possess firearm, possess cartridge ammunition, possess drug of dependence (methylamphetamine) and fail to comply with direction to assist.

He was bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on 15 August.

Warrants were also executed on Wednesday, 22 February in Greenvale, Coolaroo and Craigieburn with assistance from the Special Operations Group, VIPER Taskforce, the Dog Squad and North West Metro Regional Crime Squad.

Police allegedly located a firearm, a quantity of ammunition, allegedly stolen credit cards and mobile phones.

A 22-year-old Craigieburn man was arrested and charged with reckless conduct endangering life, prohibited person possess firearm, drive in a manner dangerous, and bail offences.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 14 March.
