Police charge two men over stolen vehicle at Wollongong

Two men have charged after allegedly stealing a vehicle from Wollongong today.

About 5.10am today (Tuesday 11 July 2023), police were called to Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Coalcliff, following reports a vehicle had been stolen from a residence.

Following inquires, officers attached to Wollongong Police Area Command located the vehicle traveling on Towradgi Road, Towradgi.

With the assistance of Polair and officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District, police tracked the vehicle to Haywards Bay Drive, Haywards Bay.

The 24-year-old male driver and a 21-year-old male passenger allegedly abandoned the sedan, climbing on nearby house roofs before they were arrested by police.

They were both taken to Illawarra Police Station.

The 24-year-old man was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

The 21-year-old man was charged with be carried in conveyance without consent of owner.

Both men were refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 12 July 2023).
