Driving erratically through east Auckland left the driver of a stolen vehicle seeing red.
A Police unit sighted a stolen Nissan Wingroad travelling on Kilkenny Drive in Dannemora.
“The vehicle drew attention as it had its hazard lights on and then drove through a red light at the intersection with Chapel Road,” Acting Inspector Steve Albrey, Counties Manukau East Police, says.
Police signalled the vehicle to stop, but it continued into the East Tamaki area.
Acting Inspector Albrey says the vehicle continued through another red light at the intersection of Te Irirangi Drive and Smales Road.
“The vehicle was not pursued, and a Police camera operator continued to track the vehicle’s movements.”
Eagle was also deployed, and the vehicle has been observed travelling at speed and not obeying road rules.
The Nissan was tracked south on the Southern Motorway heading into the Takanini area.
“Spikes were successfully deployed in Takanini, with all four tyres impacted,” Acting Inspector Albrey says.
“The vehicle travelled north to Manukau where it has come to a stop on Great South Road, with both occupants of the vehicle arrested without issue.”
Police have since charged the 18-year-old man driving with failing to stop and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
He is due to appear in the Manukau District Court today.
