Police charge woman with more than $250,000 worth of fraud in Thornton

A woman will face court in October after allegedly defrauding a Hunter business of more than $250,000, where she was an employee at the time.

In March 2019, detectives from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District launched an investigation into several alleged fraudulent transactions at a Thornton business between June 2012 and May 2018.

Following extensive inquiries, yesterday (Thursday 5 September 2019) a 45-year-old woman was arrested at Raymond Terrace Police Station.

Police will allege the Woodberry woman allegedly transferred $288,812 from the business account to a number of personal bank accounts.

She was charged with 25 counts of obtain benefit by deception. She was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Maitland Local Court on Friday 11 October 2019.
