Police investigate armed robbery at Ashmore 2 November

Gold Coast detectives are investigating the armed robbery of an Ashmore tavern in the early hours of this morning.

Around 3.40am, two men wearing gloves and with their faces covered forced entry to the Cotlew Street business by smashing a glass door with an axe.

The men, believed to be armed with a firearm, confronted three employees – two men and a woman – threatening them before forcing them into a disabled toilet, where they were restrained with zip-ties.

The pair then stole cash before running from the building through the carpark and into nearby bushland.

No one was physically injured and no customers were disturbed during the robbery.

Police immediately attended the scene and the dog-squad was used to track the men without success.

Investigations continue.
