Police investigate armed robbery at Coombabah

Police are investigating after a man was robbed at gun-point at Coombabah in the early hours of this morning.

Around 4.20am, a 73-year-old Biggera Waters man was sitting in his parked car on The Esplanade, talking on his mobile phone, when a vehicle pulled up in front of him.

An unknown man exited the vehicle and approached the 73-year-old’s driver-side window before producing what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun.

The man then threatened the 73-year-old and demanded his wallet.

Initially, the 73-year-old denied he had a wallet, before the man reached through the driver’s side window and grabbed his jacket and pointed the firearm at his face. The victim then handed over his wallet and the man ran back to the vehicle and drove away.

The 73-year-old was not injured during the armed robbery.

The man is described as aged in his 20s and was wearing a black hooded jumper at the time of the incident.

Investigations continue.
