Police investigate Beechworth fires

Wangaratta Criminal Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following several fires in Beechworth this month.

Investigators have been told the smouldering remains of a scrub fire was discovered near a fence on Old Chiltern and Beechworth-Chiltern roads on Tuesday, 23 November 2021 about 8am. It’s believed this fire was ignited on the previous evening. Another smouldering scrub fire was located nearby at about 4pm.

On Monday, 22 November about 6.30pm, a male and female entered a public toilet on Ford Street. CFA attended soon after and extinguished a blaze in the toilet block.

Scrub fires were also located on Old Chiltern Road on Sunday, 7 November and Sunday, 31 October.

Detectives have released images of a male and female they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

The female is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, with a slim build and shoulder length black and red hair. She was wearing a grey long-sleeve top, black adidas t-shirt, grey track pants and black and white canvas shoes.

The male is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance with a slim build. He was wearing a black hat, black adidas jumper, black shorts and black shoes.
