Emergency services responded after reports two vehicles were struck by a train in Officer this morning (15 July).
It is understood a car was stopped northbound on Brunt Road when it was rear-ended by a second vehicle shortly after 7am.
As a result, both vehicles ended up on the railway tracks.
The occupants of the silver Toyota hatch, a couple aged in their 70s got out of the vehicle after they realised their car had been pushed onto the tracks.
A train which was travelling city bound collided with the vehicle shortly after the occupants of the vehicle got to safety.
The Toyota was pushed about 150m and became lodged beneath the train.
The second vehicle, a silver Holden station wagon, driven by 44-year-old man from Officer, also sustained extensive damage after being hit by the train.
Two children were also in the Holden along with the driver were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The couple were also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
84 passengers along with two Metro staff who were on the train at the time were all un-injured.
Trains are currently stopped in the area and motorists are advised to expect delays.
The investigation is ongoing.
