Police investigate Mooroolbark suspicious fire

Yarra Ranges Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses following a fire at a business in Mooroolbark.

It is believed two men forced their way into the Brice Avenue store on Monday 1 July about 2.30am.

The pair spread an accelerant through the premises before setting the fuel alight, causing a small explosion.

One of the offenders set his sleeve on fire when attempting to spark the blaze.

Police believe the same two men were involved in the theft of a white Toyota Celica from The Centreway in Ringwood about half an hour prior to the fire.

That vehicle was later found burnt out in Kenross Court, Wantirna South.

Police have released images and CCTV footage in relation to this incident in the hope it will assist the investigation.

Investigators are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone who could assist in their investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
