Police investigate serious assault atElizabeth Downs, South Australia

Police are seeking assistance from the public after a serious assault at Elizabeth Downs early this morning.

About 3.45am on Saturday 5 September, a man was assaulted in the vicinity of Campbell Road at Elizabeth Downs. A 28-year-old man from Paralowie was assaulted with an axe resulting in a serious head injury.

The victim made his way to a friend’s home and he was taken to Lyell McEwin Hospital where he was treated and transferred to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for surgery. He remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Just before 10.30am Northern District Detectives attended an address at Elizabeth Downs where they arrested a 31-year-old Elizabeth Downs man. He has been charged with aggravated assault causing serious harm. He has been refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday 7 September.

Police are seeking information from members of the public that may have any information about this incident. The suspect is described as being Caucasian in appearance, about 30 years of age. At the time of his arrest he was wearing a distinctive orange hi-vis jacket and dark coloured tracksuit pants. He may not have been wearing this clothing at the time of the incident.
