Police investigate Southbank crash

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a serious crash which occurred in Southbank this evening.

Investigators have been told a truck left the road near the intersection of City Road and Power Street about 7pm and collided with a traffic light and a group of pedestrians.

The truck, possibly a tanker, then left the scene via Power Street.

The pedestrians, believed to be four men and a woman and all aged in their 20-30s, have been taken to hospital with two men suffering critical injuries.

At this stage there is not thought to be any threat to the community and police are working to ascertain the identity of the driver.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or with dashcam footage to come forward.

Detectives from Major Collision Investigation Unit are currently on scene.
