Police lay charges after death of man hit by truck in Chatswood

A driver has been charged following the death of a man who was hit by a truck in Chatswood yesterday.

About 4.30pm (Wednesday 1 December 2021), emergency services were called to Fullers Road at the intersection of Park Avenue, following reports a man had been hit by a truck.

Police were told a white Mitsubishi rigid truck – driven by a 33-year-old man – and a silver Ford Focus – driven by a 57-year-old man – turned right into Fullers Road, where both drivers became involved in an argument.

The driver of the Ford exited his vehicle and approached the truck, grabbing onto the front passenger side while the truck driver attempted to drive away. The man lost his grip and was struck by the truck.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

The driver of the truck was uninjured and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command established a crime scene that was examined by the Crash Investigation Unit.

The truck driver was released from hospital and taken to Chatswood Police Station where he was charged with negligent driving (occasioning death) and drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous. He was also charged with a breach of bail.

The North Strathfield man was refused bail to appear in Hornsby Local Court today (Thursday 2 December 2021).

As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dashcam footage, to come forward.
