Police lay charges after domestic-related shooting in Wahroonga

A man has been charged with attempted murder and firearms offences after a domestic-related shooting in Sydney’s Upper North Shore yesterday.

About 10.10am (Thursday 12 November 2020), officers attached to Kuring-Gai Police Area Command were called to a home on Highlands Avenue, Wahroonga, following reports of shots fired.

A 50-year-old man was found suffering a gunshot wound to his neck.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A 73-year-old man, who is known to him, was treated at the scene for facial injuries, before being arrested and taken to the same hospital, where he remains under police guard.

Two unregistered firearms – a handgun and a shortened rifle – were seized by police and will undergo forensic examination.

Detectives from Kuring-Gai Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As part of their inquiries, a search warrant was executed at a home in Beecroft yesterday.

During the search, police located a third firearm, a rifle which is also unregistered, and ammunition.

Following further inquiries, the older man was charged with shoot at with intent to murder, use unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm, possess unregistered firearm-pistol, possess prohibited drug, two counts of possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, possess unregistered firearm-not prohibited firearm, and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.

The Beecroft man was refused bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court today (Friday 13 November 2020), which is expected to be via bedside hearing.
