Police lay charges – Drug and firearm offences

Northern Territory Police have charged a 20-year-old man for serious drug and firearm related offences in Stuart Park yesterday.

Drug and Organised Crime Squad detectives investigated the man for alleged supply of drugs in the Greater Darwin Region.

Yesterday, his vehicle was intercepted at a traffic apprehension and police seized a large quantity of illicit substances. A search warrant was subsequently executed at his residence in Stuart Park where further illicit substances and a stolen firearm were located.

Police seized the items and the man was arrested and later charged with:

  • Supply Commercial Qty Sch 1 Dangerous Drug x 4
  • Supply Commercial Qty Sch 2 Dangerous Drug x 2
  • Supply Less than Commercial Qty Sch 2 Dangerous Drug
  • Possess Commercial Qty Sch 1 Dangerous Drug x 2
  • Possess Commercial Qty Sch 2 dangerous Drug x 3
  • Receive / Use Property used in Commission of Offence
  • Supply Schedule 8 Substance
  • Possess / Use Firearm Whilst Unlicensed
  • Possess/Carry/Use Prohibited Weapon x 2

Detective Superintendent Morgan said “We are always pleased when we take drugs off the streets however the importance of seizing an illegal firearm cannot be overstated. Anytime a gun is removed from the streets we know we have made the community a safer place.”

Further charges are expected to be laid and he was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
