Police lay charges over drug offences in Alice Springs 20 November

Northern Territory Police have charged a 34-year-old man with multiple drug charges as part of an operation to target the illicit supply of dangerous drugs in the Territory.

On Saturday, 18 November 2023 at 2:30pm, police conducted a traffic apprehension on the man’s white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter camper van in a Drug Detection Area on the Stuart Highway, South of Alice Springs.

Drug Detection Dogs Yva and Callen were deployed within the vehicle and provided a conditioned response. Upon further searches conducted 4 large bags were located containing approximately 45kgs of Cannabis.

The man was arrested and later charged with:

  • Supply Schedule 2 Dangerous Drugs – Commercial Quantity
  • Possess Schedule 2 Dangerous Drugs – Commercial Quantity

He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.

The collaboration between the Southern Dog Operations Unit, Southern Drug Investigations Unit, the Drug and Organised Crime Section and Southern traffic Operations has led to the successful interception of harmful drugs into the NT.
