Police lay charges over tobacconist armed robbery in Pyrmont

A man has been charged following investigations into an armed robbery at a tobacconist in Pyrmont last month.

Police will be alleging in court that shortly before midnight on Monday 16 September 2019, a man armed with a stick entered a tobacconist on Pyrmont Bridge Road and approached the attendant.

He jumped the counter and struck the employee across the face with the stick while grabbing cash from the register. He ran from the store and was last seen heading east towards the casino.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended the scene and commenced inquiries.

About 5.25pm yesterday (Tuesday 15 October 2019), an 18-year-old man attended Marrickville Police Station where he was arrested. He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with aggravated robbery and use corporal violence.

He was refused bail and will appear in Newtown Local Court today (Wednesday 16 October 2019).
