Northern Territory Police Operation Autour officers in conjunction with Australian Border Force executed a search warrant at a Gray residence on 15 October as part of Operation Athena, a national strategy to reduce the presence of illicit firearms and firearm parts in Australian communities.
During the search, police located:
- 11 x silencers/suppressors
- 43 x imitation firearms and projectiles
- 1 x prohibited handheld crossbow
- 3 x prohibited slingshots
- 2 x prohibited flick knives
- A quantity of cannabis
- A quantity of ammunition
- 1 x fireworks cracker
As a result a 41-year-old male is expected to be issued with a notice to appear in court for a number of weapons, firearms, drug and dangerous goods offences.
Acting Superintendent Drew Slape of Territory Support Services said “The Northern Territory Police Force will continue to work in conjunction with our federal counterparts to detect and stop the purchase and importation of illicit weapons and firearms into our community”
“If anyone is unsure of the legal status of an item in the NT, we strongly urge them to contact the Northern Territory Police prior to making purchases online.”
