Police lay murder charge after woman stabbed – St Marys

A man has been charged with murder as inquiries continue following the death of a woman at St Marys.

Officers from Nepean Police Area Command were called to a home in Edmondson Avenue about 6.45am today (Wednesday 16 August 2023), and found a 31-year-old woman suffering stab wounds to her chest.

She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene.

About 45 minutes later, a 35-year-old St Marys man was arrested at Campbelltown Police Station and held in custody.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Nepean Police Area Command established Strike Force Wiare to investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

The man has now been charged with one count of murder; he’s been refused bail to appear in Campbelltown Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 17 August 2023).

A critical incident team from Ryde Police Area Command will investigate all the other circumstances surrounding the incident, after reports emergency services had been called to the home about 8.40pm yesterday (Tuesday 15 August 2023), due to concerns for a man’s welfare.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.
