Police lay robbery with violence charge at Townsville

Detectives have charged a man following the robbery of a business in Townsville overnight.

It will be alleged at 11.30pm a man entered the licensed games venue in Flinders Street and went behind the bar area. He pushed a female staff member and attempted to take money from the cash register. The woman struggled with the man who then took her mobile phone which was sitting on the cash register.

The man fled the business and the woman chased him across Stanley Street before attending the Townsville Police Station to report the matter.

Police arrested the man in Ogden Street a short time later.

The 22-year-old Townsville woman received bruising and scratches to her left hand and leg.

Her phone was recovered by a member of the public around 1am in Ogden Street.

A 25-year-old Heatley man has been charged with one count of robbery with violence and will appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today.
