Police locate one Malmsbury escapee, continue searching for second

Police have located one of the two men who escaped from Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre on Saturday night.

19-year-old Matthew Piscopo was arrested by Ballarat Criminal Investigation Unit at a residential address in Ballarat about 10.30am this morning.

He was taken into custody without incident, and will face Ballarat Magistrates’ Court today, before being returned to custody.

He faces additional charges of escape lawful custody and criminal damage.

Detectives from the Fugitive Squad continue to search for 22-year-old Shamus Touhy.

Touhy is described as 170cm tall with a thin build, and red medium length hair.

He is known to frequent the Ballarat area.

Police have released an image of Shamus in the hope someone recognises him and can provide information on his current whereabouts.

He is not believed be violent however members of the public are advised not to approach him but to contact triple-zero (000) immediately.

This morning’s arrest follows an incident where the two men broke out of the Mollison Street facility about 11.30pm on Saturday 6 August.
