Police make arrest after police car rammed

A man is in custody after a police car was rammed in Chelsea Heights last night.

Detectives from Frankston Crime Investigation Unit were travelling along the Frankston Freeway about 11.40pm when two motorcycles sped by.

Investigators believe the two bikes had previously been travelling along Peninsula Link at speeds in excess of 200km/h before passing the unmarked police car and exiting at Thames Promenade.

The detectives patrolled the surrounding area and located the bikes at the intersection of Wells Road and Springvale Road.

One of the bikes turned into Edithvale Road and was intercepted by police.

The second motorcycle sped off north along Springvale Road and on the wrong side of the road.

The intercepted rider rammed his bike into the open passenger door of the police car as one of the detectives was exiting.

It’s alleged he then rode at the detective and forced him to dive into his car before repeatedly ramming the door and side of the vehicle.

The rider attempted to turn his bike and flee but lost his balance and was quickly arrested by the officers.

The rider, a 43-year-old man of no fixed address, was taken to hospital under police guard suffering unrelated minor injuries.

Detectives wish to speak to anyone who saw or may have dashcam footage of the two motorcycles on Peninsula Link or the Frankston Freeway or of the motorcycle which fled north along Springvale Road.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit crimestoppersvic.com.au

The other rider is yet to be located.
