Police make arrest – Dangerous driving in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to driving offences yesterday afternoon.

At about 4:15pm, police observed a 31-year-old man attempting to start his car after stalling in traffic on Railway Terrace. On duty officers approached the vehicle to offer their assistance, upon approach, they immediately noticed the driver was visibly intoxicated.

The man was subject to a road side breath test, which he was unable to complete. He was arrested and conveyed to Alice Springs Watch House, where he returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.337%.

Sergeant Conan Robertson said, “The driver, blowing an impressive 0.337%, could barely stand or speak. It is ridiculous that he drove the vehicle and is even more bewildering that passengers were stupid enough to get in the vehicle with him behind the wheel.

“Police will continue to conduct operations to reduce alcohol related harm on our roads. We will continue to conduct random roadside alcohol and drug testing of drivers regularly throughout the Territory.”

The 31-year-old man has been charged with:

  • driving with high range alcohol content
  • driving unlicensed
  • driving an unregistered motor vehicle
  • driving an uninsured motor vehicle

He has been bailed to appear before Alice Springs Local Court on 20 October 2021.
