Northern Territory Police have arrested a 28-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman following a traffic apprehension that resulted in a drug bust yesterday morning.
At around 10:00am, police detected a Toyota Prado travelling at 180km/hr in a 130km/hr zone on the Stuart Highway, south of Katherine.
The vehicle was pulled over and the driver was required to complete a roadside drug test, resulting in a positive indication for methamphetamine. A search inside the vehicle with Drug Detector Dog Astra located drug paraphernalia and a quantity of drugs inside.
The pair were arrested and conveyed to Katherine Watch House. The 31-year-old driver was charged with:
- drive with prohibited drug in blood
- driving at dangerous speed >45km/hr over
- possess less than traffickable quantity of schedule 1 dangerous drug in a public place
- possess thing-administer dangerous drug
The 28-year-old passenger was charged with:
- possess less than traffickable quantity of schedule 1 dangerous drug in a public place
- possess less than traffickable quantity of schedule 2 dangerous drug in a public place
- possess thing-administer dangerous drug
They will appear in Katherine Local Court at a later date.
