Police make arrest – Property offences – Central Desert

Northern Territory Police have arrested two youths in relation to a vehicle theft that occurred in a remote community in the Central Desert Region yesterday.

Between 8:00pm and 9:00pm, the unknown offenders have unlawfully entered a residence in the remote community and stolen a Ford Falcon Utility.

The vehicle was spotted during the early hours of this morning on Gregory Terrace in Alice Springs.

A tyre deflation device was deployed on Zeil Street however, the vehicle continued onto Barret Drive before the alleged offenders exited and ran towards the Todd River.

Both youths were apprehended by the Dog Operations Unit and the Southern Traffic Unit a short time later.

The 14-year-old male will be charged with:

  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle

He will appear in court today.

The 13-year-old male will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.

Investigations are continuing in relation to the initial unlawful entry.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Evan Kelly said, “This was an excellent co-ordinated effort by general duties officers, the Dog Operations Unit, the Southern Traffic Unit and Strike Force Viper, which resulted in the apprehension of the offenders before they had the opportunity to commit further property offences in Alice Springs”.
