Police Make Arrests – Operation Archer In Alice Springs 11 November

Northern Territory Police have made multiple arrests over two incidents as part of Operation Archer in Alice Springs over the weekend.

Archer is a series of Operations designed to support frontline police and Strike Force Viper investigators with additional capability to stop high risk property crime involving stolen motor vehicles and resulting attacks on police.

The first incident occurred around 2.00am on Sunday morning, when police were notified of a stolen motor vehicle, a white Toyota Hilux, driving dangerously through the Alice Springs CBD, in use by multiple offenders.

Operation Archer coordinated a response resulting in the vehicle being abandoned in the Todd River. Three males, aged 11, 13, 16 and 18-years-old, were arrested after a short foot chase.

The 13, 16, and 18-year-old were charged with using a motor vehicle without consent and were remanded to appear in court this morning. Additionally, the 13 and 16-year-olds will appear before the court for serious breach of bail.

The 11-year-old was released, however will be subject to mandatory child protection reports due to the child engaging in conduct likely to cause harm to themselves or others.

The second incident occurred around 9.10pm on Sunday evening, when police received a report that a white and blue Toyota Hilux was stolen from a business in Ciccone. The vehicle was subsequently sighted driving dangerously through the Alice Springs CBD by the occupants.

The Hilux allegedly chased other vehicles in the vicinity, including a white Toyota Kluger, which was rammed by the offenders and had a blunt weapon thrown at its windscreen. No injuries were reported to police as a result of this incident.

As part of Operation Acher, members from the Territory Response Group (TRG) and the Dog Operations Unit successfully intercepted the vehicle on Stott Terrace. The offenders fled the vehicle and were apprehended after a short foot chase.

The three male offenders, aged 14, 15, and 20-years-old, were arrested and will be charged later today with a range of offences including using a motor vehicle without consent.
