A high-visibility police operation has now concluded following an authorised public assembly in the Sydney CBD today.
As part of the ongoing Operation Shelter, more than 830 police were deployed across the city to help manage crowds and ensure the safety of participants, as well as the community and local businesses.
General Duties officers were assisted by specialist police from the Police Transport Command, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Public Order and Riot Squad, Operations Support Group, Mounted Unit, Dog Unit and PolAir.
An estimated 12,000 to 15,000 people attended the event, which included many family groups and representatives from across the wider community.
No arrests were made in relation to the event and there were no reported injuries.
Operation Commander, Assistant Commissioner Scott Whyte, acknowledges the police response and the community in ensuring the rally was conducted in a safe and responsible manner.
“We appreciate the co-operation of attendees at today’s rally who were generally well behaved,” Assistant Commissioner Whyte said.
“I would like to acknowledge the professionalism of the police officers who were deployed across the Sydney CBD during today’s large operation.”
“Operation Shelter will continue to maintain high visibility and respond to any incidents across New South Wales to ensure the safety and security of the community. Police will continue to engage with local community groups as they monitor events both here and overseas.”
