Police response to Judge’s criticism of the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre (JESCC)

The Northern Territory Police Commissioner, Jamie Chalker is disappointed with comments made by Judge Neil in the Northern Territory District Court on 15 February 2023 which described the work of the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre (JESCC) as a ‘transfer to Siberia.’

These comments have been published in the media overnight and again this morning.

Such commentary can only be described as offensive and unnecessary, as I am proud of the hard-working multi-disciplined team in the JESCC who are dedicated and work in an extremely challenging role supporting the safety of our Northern Territory community; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Without this team, people across the NT would not have access to an emergency response capability, which is vital to maintaining the safety of our communities.

This very team are the ones who have been offended by such comments and it undermines and degrades the importance of their role and function.
