Police search for driver after police pursuit – Largs North, South Australia

Police are searching for the driver and front passenger of a red VW Golf following a police pursuit that finished at Largs North overnight.

Just after 1am on Monday 4 May, a Northern District police patrol attempted to stop a red/maroon VW Golf on Kings Road Paralowie, but the female driver allegedly refused to stop, with patrols pursing the car south onto the North-South Motorway towards Port Adelaide.

The red Golf with two male passengers was followed to the Port River expressway then south on Hanson Road then west on Wilkins Road and eventually to Port Adelaide.

The red Golf avoided road spikes near the Birkenhead Bridge continuing north towards Largs Bay.

At this moment the front passenger of the Golf commenced to throw rubbish out the window of the car at the following police car, including the glovebox cover of the Golf which a police car ran over.

The pursuit continued through back streets of Largs North, with the Golf driving on the incorrect side and turning its lights off.

At 1.20am the Golf was dumped in Critten Avenue at Largs North, with police patrols setting up cordons around the area. PolAir the police helicopter was called in to assist in the search.

After an extensive search of the area, patrols failed to locate the female driver or the front male passenger of the car.

Police did locate the rear passenger in the car, he has been interviewed and since released without charge.

The red Golf which was not reported stolen has been seized by police for forensic examination.

Enquiries are continuing to locate the driver and front passenger with both believed to be known to police.

There were no injuries or damage to any police vehicles.
