A large-scale search of a property in the Murray Mallee region is being conducted by SA Police today in a bid to locate evidence believed to be linked with two murder inquiries.
Led by a team from the Major Crime Investigation Branch, police from a number of areas are today searching a 15ha property linked with the Adelaide chapter of the Hells Angels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) at Ponde.
The property, infamous for drag racing and concert events hosted by the OMCG, will be the focus of attention today – and potentially tomorrow – as police search for a vehicle and firearms.
Detective Superintendent Des Bray, the officer in charge of Major Crime, said police were looking for evidence linked with the murder of Mark Boyce in 2017 and the shooting deaths of Graham Nixon, 33, Sinibaldo Palombi, 35, and Hubert Western, 32, in 1999.
The latter three men were members of the Rebels OMCG and were shot outside their clubrooms in Wright Street. Two Hells Angels members were subsequently arrested, however the charges were withdrawn due to a lack of co-operation by members of the Rebels.
One person has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of Mr Boyce, who died as a result of injuries he suffered in an assault by three men on Hill Street at Elizabeth South on the evening on Monday 30 January 2017, however two other offenders remain outstanding.
Detective Superintendent Bray said the property at Ponde has been searched by police before, most recently in November last year, however today’s operation was far more extensive.
He said searchers would be using ground penetrating radar, thanks to the co-operative relationship between SAPOL and the Australian Federal Police via the joint National Anti-Gangs Squad (NAGS).
Also involved in today’s search are police from the Crime Gangs Taskforce, Murray Mallee Local Service Area, State Tactical Response Group, Mounted Operations and the Dog Operations Unit.
“This is an extensive property and police may be here for several days,” Detective Superintendent Bray said.
