Police seek information after teenage girl indecently assaulted in Pottsville

Police are appealing for information after a teenage girl was indecently assaulted at a northern NSW beach earlier this week.

About 12pm on Monday 4 March 2019, a 17-year-old girl caught a bus from Kingscliff and got off on Tweed Coast Road to go to Pottsville beach.

As the teen walked north towards Hastings Point, she saw a utility parked near the entrance to the sand dunes with black material covering the tray and a surfboard sticking out.

The girl changed into her swimming costume and went for a swim. As she got out of the water, she saw a man walk past her. There were no other people on the beach at the time.

The man followed the girl as she walked back to collect her belongings and spoke to her before indecently assaulting her.

Officers from the Tweed/Byron Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Police would like to speak with a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as being of athletic build, of tanned complexion, with brown messy hair, possibly with blue eyes, having a distinctive tattoo of the sun on his right shoulder, and wearing blue shorts.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
