Police seek witnesses to $7000 telephone scam

Police are appealing for public assistance after a victim was scammed of more than $7000 last month.

Investigators were told an unidentified person has contacted the victim stating they were a police officer.

The “supposed” officer told the victim she needed to pay money to be exonerated from a criminal investigation involving her bank accounts.

The victim complied and withdrew $7,700 and met an unknown female on Tanderrum Way in Broadmeadows on November 27 and gave her the money.

The victim, a 47-year-old Campbellfield woman, had no further contact with this woman.

Investigators have released an image of a woman they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

She is described as being 30-40 years old, with black hair, wearing a purple jumper, white pants and carrying a black handbag.

Anyone who recognises this woman or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
