Police update 2: Arrest Gulliver

Police have charged a man after he allegedly tried to steal a car in Aitkenvale yesterday.

Police will allege, around 8.30am, the man, armed with a gun, unsuccessfully attempted to steal a vehicle at a petrol station in Arthur Street at Aitkenvale.

Further investigation has indicated, there is no complaint regarding a Black Commodore the man then took charge of, which contained two female passengers, around 8.50am, on Fulham Road at Gulliver.

The two females were located in the vehicle in Railway Estate around 10am. They were not physically injured.

The man fled the scene at Railway Estate and was located and arrested in Vincent when police used a tyre deflation device to intercept a vehicle he was driving.

The 33-year-old Jensen man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, attempted armed robbery, possession of a weapon (shotgun), possession of explosives (ammunition), possession of dangerous drug (methylamphetamine), unlawful entry of motor vehicle whilst armed and fail to supply specimen of breath. He has also been charged with three counts of disqualified driving and two counts of stealing.

He will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court this morning.
