Police update: Assault investigation at Cairns

Police have charged a man following three assaults at Earlville on Saturday, December 2.

It will be alleged just before 6am a 33-year-old man kicked and punched a woman, who is known to him, outside a shopping centre on Mulgrave Road.

A 82-year-old man saw the assault occur and approached the 33-year-old man calling on him to stop.

It will be further alleged the man punched the 82-year-old man in the mouth.

A 55-year-old man saw the assault of the older man and approached the 33-year-old man, again calling on him to stop.

The 33-year-old man punched the 55-year-old man in the head before fleeing the scene with the woman.

This morning, December 6, police attended a White Rock address where they arrested and later charged the man.

The 33-year-old White Rock man has been charged with one count each of contravene a domestic violence order, assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence), serious assault of person over 60, and common assault. He has been remanded in custody and will appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on December 18.

The two male victims were not known to the man and did not require medical attention.

The woman is receiving assistance from support agencies.
